Si ritiene che fosse il primo figlio maschio di mwcgBrychan, un potente sovrano gallese del mwcwV secolo. Sua madre potrebbe essere stata Benadulved, figlia di Benadyl, un principe del mwdaPowys. Sarebbe stata sedotta mentre Brychan era ostaggio presso la corte del padre di leicite-ref-visionofbritain-org-uk-1-0[1].

Cynog sarebbe stato ucciso sulla montagna detta mwegthe Van (Bannau Brycheiniog).

Le sue reliquie si troverebbero a mwfqMerthyr Cynog, nel mwfgGalles, mentre il giorno in cui viene celebrato è il 7cite-ref-2[2] o il 9cite-ref-3[3] mwhwottobre.
